The number of viewers of Instagram stories could reach 500 meters per night
In the past 24 hours, Instagram Stories’ daily viewership has grown by a whopping 125 million users, surpassing 500 million on Monday, the company announced on Monday.

Last month, Instagram expanded the Stories format with the introduction of Instagram Stories Spots, which allow publishers to post videos and ads within the camera effect for a limited time.
“It’s been an incredible month for Instagram,” David Ginsberg, director of research at Facebook, said in a blog post. “The growth is a result of these Stories features working well and continued improvements to the product, not just Stories, but Instagram overall.”
Instagram Stories have become a hit with users, but Facebook has been wary of letting the feature dominate its platform. The company introduced the Stories format to Facebook with mixed results. In 2016, Facebook completely shut down the Stories feature, making the tool available only to a few large media companies and businesses.
Late last year, the company rolled out the feature to all users and began testing a new “Stories” tab in the app that gives users access to the same features at the top of the app as Instagram’s Stories section. Instagram has not disclosed how many Stories viewers currently have. According to Sensor Tower’s analysis of Android usage data from Google Play, Stories had just over 1% of the total US mobile user base in the US.
