The first step in obtaining an AFO is to get a referral from a physician. If the physician believes that the patient is a candidate for this treatment, he or she will make an appointment to assess the patient and prescribe an orthosis. The clinician will ask the patient to walk and perform range of motion tests.

PAFO

Ankle foot drop orthotics are designed to help patients move their ankle joint more freely. While many of them are simple devices, there are other types, such as powered ankle-foot orthoses.
