Trekking refers to multi-day hiking in the mountain ranges. When trekking is done during winters, it is simply termed winter trekking. This allows the trekkers to experience snow-filled mountains and paths giving them chilled memories. If this led your mind to go for a winter trek in India, don’t worry! CHADAR TREK

The Chadar trek is located in  Ladakh which is a Union territory in India. It is also called the Zanskar Gorge trek as this is a winter trail over the frozen Zanskar river. It has captivating views all around. The thrill of walking on the ice gives the trekkers a memorable experience for a lifetime. It is 11,150 feet above sea level. Temperature falls to -3 degrees at night and gives the trekkers an experience of trekking to the North Pole. Food is brought on sleds. It gives a thrilling expedition to watch animals like snow leopards, blue sheep, and ibex in the surroundings. Trekkers can experience Zanskari culture. It is a mix of Tibetan and Indian cultures. One of the main attractions of this trek is the Nerak waterfall. This waterfall is completely frozen from its top to bottom. Trekking can be done between November and May.

Kedarkantha TREK

Kedarkantha trek is a mountain peak of the Himalayas of 122,500 feet, located in the Uttarakashi district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the best trekking experiences for beginners. Kedarkantha is known as the Queen of winter Trek. It is one of the popular treks between seasoned trekkers and beginners in our country. It is in the Sivalik hills of Garhwal Himalayas mountain ranges. The trek lasts almost four days and usually begins in a small village called Sankri. This trekking passes through the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand. This trek begins from Sankri village to the Kedarkantha trek peak base camp. This trek is unique and famous for its amazing views. There are lots of legends about this place too. Thus it would be very interesting as the whole trek seems to be quite engaging.

NAG TIBBA TREK

Nag Tibba is the highest mountain peak in Uttarakhand. The name means Serpents peak. It has an altitude of 3,022 meters. Thus this is the highest peak in the lower Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. The name Nag Tibba means ‘ Nag Devta’. Seasoned trekkers say that the whole trek can be completed within a day itself taking almost 5-6 hours. There is a temple called Nag Tibba temple. The panoramic view of the entire Banderpunch of the Great Indian Himalayas towards the Yamunotri range can be experienced from here. It ends with the mighty views of the Himalayas. This trekking is suitable for kids and beginners.

GOECHA LA TREK

Goecha la trek is located in Sikkim at an altitude of more than 15,000 feet. This trek could take almost 10 days for trekking. This is one of the oldest trekking in the Himalayas. This trek takes the trekkers through the calm Samiti lake, the mystical settings of Thangshing, a beautiful view of sunrise from the Dzongri top, and the natural beauty of Kaziranga National Park. The trekking is shut when there is a disturbance from Nepal. There are dense forests, monasteries, mountain ranges, and rhododendron meadows on the trekking.  The temperature varies from -5 degrees celsius to -10 degrees celsius. This makes trekking more challenging. This gives the beauty of nature its best.

BRAHMATAL TREK

Brahmatal lake is the main tourist attraction in Kuling, Uttarakhand. This is one of the popular winter treks in the Himalayas. The trek takes almost 6 days. This is located at a height of 12,000 meters with Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti towering in the skyline. This lake is covered with blankets of snow and thus offers magnificent views of the Garhwal Himalayas. There are two alpine lakes on this trek. This trek gives its trekkers an incredible experience. The Brahmatal lake is accessible even in chilling winters and provides its visitors with the serenity of the mountains and the glacial lakes. The Brahmatal lake is known for its serenity and the legends associated with it. Layered dresses are preferred as the temperature becomes very low while moving to the top.
