Light roast, medium roast, medium-dark roast, and dark roast are the four types of specialty coffee roasts. Each roast level has a distinct aroma, appearance, and flavour. Continue reading to learn about the four different types of coffee roasts!

Coffees with a light roast

The longer a bean is roasted, the more caffeine and acidity it releases. This means that light roasts contain the most caffeine (by volume) and acidity. Light roasts may have a different flavour profile because the shortened roasting process prevents some chemical changes within the bean from occurring. The origin flavours of the bean are more noticeable in light roasts because the roasting process flavours are often not prominent. Light roasts’ acidity is frequently accompanied by a citrus or lemon tone, which some people find pleasing to the palate.

Medium Roast Coffee

The average American speciality coffee drinker is accustomed to medium roasts. These roasts are thought to have well-balanced flavours. A medium roast’s acidity and body can vary, but they are usually in the middle. House blend, Breakfast roast, and American roast are all examples of medium roasts.

Coffee Roasts Medium-Dark

Richer, fuller flavour, more body, and less acidity characterise these roasts. A medium-dark roast specialty coffee dubai blend includes the Vienna Roast and Full-City Roast.

Roasted Dark Coffee

Because the sugars in coffee beans have time to caramelise, dark roasts have sweeter flavours. The longer roasting time gives it a richer flavour and fuller body, which often results in a buttery finish. They also have the least amount of acidity of any coffee roast. Dark roasts contain the least caffeine because they are roasted the longest. French roast is the darkest roast and has a strong smoky flavour. The oils and sugars in coffee beans will burn if they are roasted longer than a French roast (482°F). Because dark roasts are popular in Europe, they frequently have European names, such as Italian roast.
