Steps to Gaining Focus and Mental Clarity

Do you wish that each morning you could begin with a sense of purpose and direction? Would you feel better if you knew that the things you did today were steps to gaining focus and mental clarity toward achieving your long-term aims? If we’re being completely forthright, we’d all like to achieve that state of mind where everything is crystal clear.

It’s unfortunate that we often let the hectic outside world seep into our lives, whether we realize it or not. This is a huge disruption that prevents us from concentrating on our goals. The indecision and lack of focus that results from letting ourselves become angry, depressed, and upset as a result of reading or viewing anything negative online is a direct result of this. We let ourselves be consumed by regret over past transgressions and wrongs suffered at the hands of others. Distractions abound in our daily lives, from the people and things around us to the bad experiences from our pasts. It forces us to dwell on the bad things that prevent us from seeing the great future we could all have if we just concentrated on the things we want to achieve, the actions we need to take, and the life we want.

Here are 12 easy ways to get your thoughts in order and start each day with a clear sense of purpose.

Take a stroll.

A walk in the park or the woods is a great way to get some exercise and clear your head. If you do not have access to natural areas, even a twenty to thirty-minute stroll around your neighborhood will have the same effect. Simply getting up and moving around will improve your mood and enable you to think more clearly.

Start your day with a glass of lemon water

About two years ago, I made the decision to start each morning with a glass of lemon water. Within twenty minutes of doing so, I noticed a marked improvement in my overall health, mental clarity, and level of alertness. Drinking half a lemon squeezed into a glass of water is something many medical experts recommend doing every day for your physical health. But when your body is healthy, your mind is healthy too Consciousness and physicality are intertwined in the human body. When our bodies aren’t feeling well, neither are our spirits. When we’re active and engaged in life, we experience a tremendous sense of well-being and an upsurge in positive emotions. It’s clear that starting the day off with a glass of lemon water has direct positive effects on both your physical and mental health.

Make a pre-bedtime plan for the next day

When you take the time to think about what you want to get done on a given day the night before, you can start the next day with confidence. The vast majority of people never give any serious thought to their long-term goals. Instead, they let circumstances determine their next move. Events rarely go your way because they are usually other people’s crises, forcing you to devote your time and energy to their plans while you make no progress toward your own. Knowing what you want out of the day will help you focus and increase the likelihood that you will actually achieve those goals.

Take a Step Back and Take a Look at The Big Picture

The perspective gained by considering the whole picture can also help you think more clearly. Far too often, we lose focus on the larger purpose and meaning of our actions because we allow ourselves to become distracted by the details. Is there ever a feeling that you’re just going through the motions? This is what happens when our focus shifts from the goals to the means of accomplishing them.

Know What You Want to Achieve

Stay focused on your ultimate goal; this is related to the first point. All too often, procedures are established in advance of a project’s launch, and no one stops to wonder if those procedures are actually productive. The phrase “shut up, we’re making progress” is often heard. However, it will be for naught if the advancement is leading you further and further from your goal.

Repeatedly assessing your progress is essential. If you want to lose weight, for instance, all you have to do is eat less and exercise more. However, if you notice that your weight is staying the same despite your efforts to cut calories and increase physical activity, you should evaluate your progress and figure out what you can do differently to achieve the desired outcome.

Figure out what you value most.

To get somewhere without a map is like driving without directions. We, humans, are truly remarkable. Many of our problems can be traced back to the fact that we are the only species capable of making decisions for ourselves. All a tree can do when planted is grow as tall as it can within its current confines. Except for humans, every other living thing must inevitably reach its full potential.

Humans, on the other hand, have the power of choice, and the vast majority of individuals choose not to maximize their potential. Instead of improving ourselves, we’d rather sit on the couch and mindlessly scroll through our news feeds. To get the most out of your life, you need to prioritize what matters most to you and work tirelessly toward those goals. Having a clear idea of what you want and why you want it can get you 80% of the way there. The other 20% comes from the work you put in.

Recognize the Five Crucial Aspects of Self-Care

You should always be making progress in these five areas of your life. These include getting enough rest, eating well, drinking plenty of water, working out, and making a plan for the future.

Sleep

Your memory, focus, and immunity to the disease will all suffer. Lack of sleep will impair your ability to think clearly.

Food

Sustenance comes from the foods you eat. Increased demand for the body’s blood and enzymes is necessary when the diet is high in refined carbohydrates, sugar, and unhealthy fats. The less oxygenated blood reaches the brain, the worse it will function, so watch what you eat and drink. If you eat too many carbohydrates, your body will react by increasing the amount of insulin in your blood, which can make you feel sleepy (higher quality food = higher quality brain function), which explains why we all experience an afternoon lull.

Water

The ability to focus is one of the first things to go when you start to dehydrate. Even a slight decrease in your hydration level can impair your ability to concentrate and think clearly, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Extreme dehydration can cause confusion and other incapacitating symptoms. [3] Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking lots of water.

Exercise

Clearing your mind through exercise is a great option. When we’re actively moving, our brains thrive. For the vast majority of our history, humans have been more of a prey than predator, making us a tasty snack for a wide variety of carnivores. Our minds evolved to be the most efficient survival tool we have when we are in motion as a result of this. Although we are very unlikely to end up on a predator’s plate today, your brain has not caught up to the fact that we no longer live in a prey-based world. This is why the feeling of wanting to move when stressed is so strong. If you’re feeling clouded in the head, get some exercise.

Planning

Establishing daily goals and sticking to them requires a plan. It need not be the kind of schedule that controls your every waking moment. You only need a list of things that you know for a fact that need to be completed today. You’d be surprised at how productive you can be when you start the day with a clear idea of what needs to be done.

Watch What Enters Your Mind with Caution

They decide if you feel blessed or cursed, wealthy or impoverished. Negativity enters your mind if you start the day by reading the news or scrolling through social media feeds. A bad attitude can ruin your day if you let it in. Do something outdoors first thing in the morning. Take a moment to appreciate the weather, be it rain, snow, or bright sunshine, by looking outside. Take some time to appreciate the wondrous world around you.

Establish Positive Morning Habits

A positive, routine morning activity that helps you get focused on the day ahead is one of the most powerful ways to improve your mental clarity for the rest of the day. Simple things like stretching while sipping on some lemon water first thing in the morning, or setting aside ten minutes to meditate, keep a journal, and go over your daily schedule are all great places to start. When you give yourself thirty minutes every morning to focus on yourself, take care of your needs, and reflect, you’ll find that clarity finds you rather than the other way around.

Disconnect

Doomscrolling is a real thing that can have devastating effects on your psyche. It will never make you feel better to read endless articles about this or that despotic leader, about death and destruction, about how unfair the world is, and about people portraying fictionally perfect lives that only make you feel inadequate. Try reading a book instead. Spend some time in reflection or education. Put down the phone, unwind, and focus on what you have to be thankful for instead of what you don’t. When you’re at peace with yourself and the world, it’s easier to see exactly what you want out of life. You’ll have a great time working on yourself and discovering the positive aspects of your life and the world rather than dwelling on the negative.

A Periodical

Writing in a journal is a great way to focus the mind and gain insight. You can just let your thoughts flow onto the page, and then you’ll have a much better understanding of what they mean and what, if anything, you can do about them. Writing in a journal can provide you with some quiet time in which to assess your current situation and plan for the future. The floor is yours to do with as you please. Journaling regularly in the morning is a great way to incorporate mindfulness into your day and improve your ability to focus.

Don’t keep negative people around you.

Take steps to get rid of any negative influences. You can do without them. Negative, confusing, and emotional experiences that do not aid in self-awareness are all amplified when you’re around toxic people. Instead, they cause you to be plagued by uncertainty and confusion, neither of which is conducive to clear thinking.
