The Beginner’s Guide to Picking the Perfect Bicycle

I’ve always been a fan of dirt bikes for 13 year olds. For the past few years, I’ve been riding the same bike I received on my birthday on the 10th of July. Sure, it was able to get me where I wanted to be however, it was time to get an upgrade.

As a newbie, I found that picking the perfect bicycle wasn’t as easy as I had thought. From frame size to other features, we’ll show you how to choose the right bike for you.

Choose the best bike type based on your requirements

When I entered the local bike shop and they asked me what I wanted. I didn’t know what I could say other than “a very awesome bicycle.” I was unsure how to begin and so I simply said I wanted something to ride around the neighborhood. After that, I learned that there were choices.

It is the National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) provides a list of the most common kinds of bikes that you can discover in most shops here. You’re probably aware of the differences between mountain bikes and cruisers however, there are many different types between them. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Mountain bicycles are rugged and designed for off-road riding, but they can be used on pavements, too.
    • road bikes are designed for use on the pavement, such as biking around urban areas. It is designed for speed.
    • hybrid bikes They are a cross-breeding of road and mountain bikes. They aren’t as fast as road bikes, but not as durable as mountain bikes, however, they are great to commute on.
    • Cruisers The casual bike to use for riding around. The kind of bikes that you can see on boardwalks along the beaches.

This information graphic also does a great job of breaking down diverse types of bikes available for novices. Obviously, there are all kinds of other, more specific kinds of bikes like tandem bikes BMX bicycles, and fixed gear bikes, and fixed gear. However, for beginners, this is the best place to start. I was looking for a reliable bicycle for transportation, and maybe one that I could ride to nearby trails, and the salesperson suggested the hybrid.

Determine how much you’d like to invest

It’s not a surprise that bikes are expensive. The prices vary significantly, though they range from around $100 to several thousand dollars depending on the bike you purchase. Ebicycles.com states that beginner riders should at the very least shell out about a few hundred dollars in the beginning, and Cost Helper analyzes the prices (emphasis on the ones we use:)

    • The lowest price range is between $80 and $300. Usually, these basic metal frames are merely functional, however, they are often fashionable. Target sells low-priced models by several brands, such as Huffy as well as Forge.
    • Mid-range bikes range from $300-$1,000. These aluminum or lightweight metal bikes are the ideal choices for those who ride regularly because of their high-end chain, wheels, and pedals improve their longevity.
    • High-end bikes are priced at $1000 or more. These models are generally made of the lightest metals like titanium and carbon. They are built for more robust daily use, or for light competition. Riders can construct their own bike in a shop or online by selecting from a variety of dimensions, colors and wheel types.

There are also good, affordable bikes for sale. For instance, the shop I went to, Around the Cycle is a specialist in reusing old bikes of people. There were plenty of options for mid-priced bikes between $200 and $300. Bicycles Blue Book can help you determine what kind of bike you could purchase for the price you want.

Once you’ve decided on the type of bike you’re looking for and the quality you’re seeking then it’s time to delve into the details.

I’m not very tall so my bike was adequate however it was quite small. In addition to looking silly, it was uncomfortable. It was difficult to find an adult-sized bike as the majority were extremely large and difficult to handle. According to what Around the Cycle informed me the bicycle’s size must be in the right proportions, or else it could be uncomfortable and difficult to control.

The optimal frame size depends on the model of bike you want to use along with your height as well as your inseam (the measurement of your crotch line to the ground). These are frame sizing charts that can aid you in choosing the ideal bike frame, based on all these aspects. Better yet, make use of the calculator to calculate your frame’s size.

Also, this is a simple guideline that the size of your frame should be approximately 65 times the length of your inseam. If you have a 25″ inseam, you’ll need an 18″ frame.
