Tenali Ramakrishna born Garlapati Ramakrishna; also known as Tenali Rama was an Indian poet,scholar. And thinker who served as a special advisor to Vijayanagar king Krishnadevaraya from 1509 to 1529. He was a Telugu poet who came from the village of Tenali in what is now Andhra Pradesh. 

He is best known for the folktales that feature his witt and biography of tenali Ramakrishna was one of the Ashtadiggajas. Also eight poets, at Krishnadevaraya’s court. When he was a child, his father died, to help Rama overcome his depression. So his mother Lakamma took him to Vijayanagar, where he became an advisor to Sri Krishnadevaraya and the eighth scholar in his court.

The life of Tenali Ramakrishna 

In a village called Thumuluru, Tenali Rama was born as Garlapati Ramakrishna around a Telugu-speaking Niyogi Hindu Brahmin family in the latter half of the fifteenth century. At Ramalingesvara Swamy temple in Santharavuru, his father Garlapathi Rama worked as a priest. Despite having little formal schooling throughout his early years, Tenali Rama became a remarkable scholar because of his hunger for information. 

According to a well-known legend, because biography of tenali Ramakrishna was an aiva, the Vaishnava scholars refused to accept him as a disciple. Ramakrishna was still adamant about getting an education, so he visited numerous parts and politely urged them to take him as a disciple, but they insulted him and tossed him out. His teacher was the wall of the rural school. And he would carefully listen to the teachings being taught in the classroom while standing by the wall each day. He would then go home and tell his mother what he had learned. However, Ramakrishna was unfortunate enough to be apprehended and accused of stealing one day. So he told the schoolteacher his tale. After hearing Ramakrishna narrative, the instructor was moved by it but was unable to act because of the rigid rules of the school administration, therefore he was expelled. 

He later saw a guru while wandering, who counseled him to worship the Goddess Kali. With his love, he worshipped and summoned the Goddess. According to legend, Maa Kali appeared to him, complimented him on his sense of humor. And gave him the good fortune of one day being hailed as a renowned poet in the court of Emperor Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara. Then he was also given the name “Vikaakavi” by the Goddess. who was moved by his wit and sense of humor. His son was Bhaskaraisharma, and Sharda was his wife.
