Going on a trip with your Land Rover Defender has never been easier since the introduction of the Land Rover Roof Rack. For many people who enjoy outdoor activities, the option in terms of storage was to have an extension for a caravan or to pack the boot and the back seats with luggage. This is unfortunate for most people who want to go outdoors with the company.

However, with the introduction of the Defender 90 Roof Rack, this has become an even easier venture for most people since they can use the rack for myriad other functions, as shall be highlighted below. Here is the Ultimate Quick Guide to the Defender 90 Roof Rack.

Defender 90 Roof Rack

Driving a Land Rover Defender allows you to experience the horizon of terrains with ease and fun indiscriminately. With Defender, you can always be certain that your next outdoor trip will be fun, comfortable, and easy. The Defender 90 Roof Rack makes this even more enjoyable.

Uses of The Defender 90 Roof Rack

For many people, when they look at the Defender 90 Roof Rack, all they see is storage space. While this is true, seeing that the roof rack can hold more than 291 lbs. of weight, the roof rack can handle even many more functions. For instance, if you get a Defender Roof Tent, you can use the top of your car as a place to rest every time you are in the wild. This makes it very easy to enjoy the outdoors without ever worrying about where you can pitch your tent.

Features of the Defender 90 Roof Rack

Before installing the Roof Rack, it is essential to visualize the various features of the Roof Rack of the car. To understand the best way of installing the Roof Rack, you need a proper comprehension of its features. This will allow you to use the roof rack even after installation effectively.

A typical Defender 90 Roof Rack has the following main components:

  • Crossbars: When using a Defender 90 Roof Rack, the cross bars are instrumental since they hold the bulk of the luggage. Thus, it is essential to ensure that the cross bars are sturdy and well-placed during installation.
  • Leg Fittings: The leg fittings of the roof rack provide space between the roof of the car and the crossbars for the efficient bolstering of luggage atop the roof rack.
  • Fixing Kits: When fastening the roof rack to the leg fittings, you need the fixing hits to tighten the hold of the roof rack. Thus, when fitted in place, the roof rack would not fidget.

Installing The Roof Rack

Installing the roof rack is generally a straightforward task. However, you may need to seek the assistance of one extra person to place the roof rack on top of the Defender easily. The roof rack could be heavy for one person to carry alone. Therefore, before you start the process, seek the assistance of a friend.

First, place the leg fittings on the car’s roof and tighten them on top of it. This is the first step as it allows you to proceed and place the fixing kits. Using the roof rack clamps that come with the fixing kits, tighten the placement of the leg fittings of the roof rack. This provides a foundation for placing cross bars. Since the crossbars are soldered together during manufacturing, you would not need to solder the individual bars to the entire structure personally.

The next step is to carry the cross bars and place them on the leg fittings. Ensure that you carry the roof rack from the back of the car to avoid damaging the windscreen and incurring a lot of damage. Most times, the roof rack will leave a spacing of about 50mm from the car’s roof, where you can place the luggage and tie it to the rack.

After leaving the required 50mm, you next need to tighten the roof rack, its leg fittings, and the fixing kit to the car’s roof. You can use a spanner since it is the most appropriate tool. However, you need to go around the car multiple times for you to get a permanent fit to the roof since every time you go around the vehicle, the screws loosen to accommodate the new ones. After ensuring that the roof rack is fixed safely, you are good to go.

Final Words

Using the roof rack can be advantageous as it ensures extra room for luggage traveling. However, be careful not to place too much luggage on the car’s roof since it may damage the rack. Remember to confirm the maximum luggage from your manufacturer before use. Lastly, clean and oil your roof rack’s movable parts to avoid rusting.
