US/DS Light Blinking on Arris Modem: [Easy Solution]

by Nathan Zachary

Facing US/DS light blinking on an Arris modem, and it doesn’t connect to the internet. An Arris modem not connecting to the internet may be because of many reasons. It could be because of an issue with the power, your Ethernet cable, or the Arris itself. Before you call your ISP and try to get them to send out a new modem, see if you can fix the problem yourself by troubleshooting your Arris modem with these common issues in mind.

Is your Arris modem plugged in?

If your Arris modem isn’t plugged in, or if you have a power outage, then you may have a blinking US/DS light on your router. In this case, unplugging your router for ten seconds will reset the unit. Once you’ve done that, plug your router back in and wait for it to fully boot up before attempting to use the internet again.

If this doesn’t work for you or if the US/DS light is still blinking after waiting for some time, proceed to the next step.

Check your cable connections

The most common reason for a connection problem when your modem is not connecting to the internet is a loose cable. Check that all connections are secure and make sure there are no gaps in cables. If the problem is with the cable connections, this checking and properly replugging the cables should fix the problem.

Again, if you’re experiencing issues with your wireless connection, try power cycling your router by unplugging it and plugging it back in. If these solutions don’t work, try toggling the WAN port on your router if you have one; consult your manual if you need help doing this.

If your modem still doesn’t work after changing out your WAN port, there may be an issue with the internal hardware of the device. But do worry because there are other possibilities too. So, right now, proceed to the next step.

Check your internet connection

If your Arris modem is still not connecting to the internet, or if its US/DS light is blinking, check your ethernet connection.

Make sure that you’ve got an active Ethernet cable running from your wall jack to your router. Finally, make sure that your router itself isn’t powered off.

If none of those steps solves your problem, check your internet service provider’s website for updates on any service outages in your area. You can also call your ISP at this moment to inquire whether internet service is working on your link.

Reset your Arris modem

Resetting your Arris modem is the next step if you’re still not able to get it connected to the internet.

To reset your modem, plug in its power cable and press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Now, once the modem has been reset, it will reboot itself.

Know that this will change the network SSID settings for your WiFI Connection. You can easily reconfigure your WiFi network name and password by logging onto the default settings interface of the modem.

Check for firmware updates

Another reason that your Arris modem may be having trouble connecting to your ISP is that there are updates available for your device.

Make sure you check for firmware updates by following these steps:

  1. Power down your modem by holding down the power button for 10 seconds
  2. Wait a few minutes
  3. Power up your modem again
  4. Let it boot up completely
  5. Check for firmware updates by pressing the Menu
  6. Follow any instructions on-screen.

Contact your ISP

If nothing has worked till this moment, you need to contact your ISP. Maybe the modem has gone bad, maybe the main ethernet cable is broken somewhere. But whatever it is, it is only your ISP that can fix it at this moment. You have tried everything you could, but it didn’t work.

Take no stress because it is not in your control, just contact your ISP and they will fix it.
