How Do You Connect A Murphy Bed To The Wall

Murphy beds can be both handy and space-saving, but they can also be quite dangerous if you’re not careful when removing them from the floor. The dangers don’t come from the bed itself; rather, it’s the heavy bookshelf or cabinet on top of it that could cause injury if you don’t take precautions. To safely remove your murphy bed from the floor, follow these safety tips below!

How it happens

Murphy beds are great space-savers, but they can be dangerous if not installed correctly. Murphy bed typically fold down against a wall, rather than retracting all of the way into it. If mounted to floorboards instead of walls, there’s potential for major injury if one of your family members accidentally trips over it.

A 2014 report found that approximately 26,000 people were injured by folding beds per year.

If yours is in danger of causing serious harm, you’ll need to figure out how to disconnect it from its current installation and move it somewhere safer. The first thing you’ll want to do is determine exactly where your bed is currently fastened and how much force would be required for it come loose accidentally—it could take quite a lot or almost none at all!

Murphy Bed Basics

When it comes time to replace your sofa with a Murphy Bed, you may be faced with a decision: Do I choose quality or convenience? By opting for low-quality materials and construction, it’s easy to set up an entire room in just a day. Unfortunately, that leads to long-term problems like cracked walls and dented floors.

Instead of cutting corners, try using high-quality products that are designed specifically for installing Murphy Beds. You can find them online or at home improvement stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot. Just make sure they’re rated highly by other buyers.

Keep in mind that if you opt for high quality materials, your installation will take longer than using off-the-shelf furniture pieces.

Store it temporarily

Most people don’t realize they can store their Murphy bed temporarily. A lot of homeowners love using their Murphy Bed at night, but during the day they need it up and out of sight. It might seem difficult, but here is how to do it:

1) Remove your mattress from your Murphy Bed

 2) Remove your headboard and footboard

3) Put aside any decorative pillows or headboards

4) Fold down/clip up (optional—clipping may make folding easier).

5) Store in an inconspicuous location out of sight

 6) Reassemble at night

7) Use for sleeping 8: Repeat steps 1-7 every day until room is ready for long term use.
