Tips for saving money with coupons when shopping

Whether you shop online or in-store, you can save you money. Buying local is certainly the best way to reduce the bill when you go shopping: favour markets and small producers.
Making a shopping list allows you to avoid compulsive purchases and to limit yourself to what is necessary.

Register on coupon sites

Coupon sites offer this possibility, but there are also websites dedicated entirely to coupons, which list all the discounts throughout the year. You can download these coupons and present them instore. These sites also allow you to compare different products before making your purchases. Without going to the extreme of those people who collect coupons and arrive at the checkout with dozens of coupons, it can save you a few euros at each checkout. Think about it … For coupons, I recommend Bummelwelt, quite original and managed by a super friendly team!

Using cashback and discount codes

Not many people know about cashback. Among my friends, whenever I tell them about it, they seem to be really surprised. I hope they know about it. Because it works. What is it? It’s simply websites, like IGraal and eBuyClub for example, that offer to give you back a part of the amount of your online purchases, sometimes up to 10%. For example, I have already received 15 euros back on an airline ticket booking. In addition, most of these sites also offer discount coupons and price comparisons. So, you choose the most interesting offer, use a coupon to lower the price, and on top of that you get a part of your purchase back. Of course, IGraal is available in Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, USA and many other countries.

Buy your appliances with a defect in appearance.

This is a tip that comes from my parents. Every time they buy an appliance, they buy it with a small defect. Or they get the appliance that was in the window. It’s cheaper and usually the defect is not obvious: a small dent in a washing machine, a small scratch on a sofa, nothing very visible. For you, it is not a big problem and represents a considerable saving (10 to 30%). For sellers, it is often impossible to sell at the expected price, so they have to lower the price.

Barter or exchange services for other services Bartering is back in fashion.

Many initiatives have been developed around bartering and exchange of services. For example, you do some gardening at your neighbor’s house, and he washes your car. Or you exchange old baby clothes (that have grown up) for the neighbor’s garden chairs.

A way to get rid of old stuff for one, a bargain for the other

Don’t buy… Rent!

Why buy a car if you are going to use it twice a month? Rent one, it is much cheaper. This principle can also be applied to kitchen utensils that you rarely use or DIY tools or even bicycles or wedding suits. Instead of buying it and paying the full price, you rent it at a really affordable price (a few euros per day). And that’s another great saving.

Give a second life to your items…

A used napkin can be used as a cloth. A used sheet can be used as a napkin. A suitcase that no longer rolls can be used as a toy box for the little ones. A shelf that is no longer used can be reused for the kitchen or the toilet. These are just four ways to give a second life to your objects and utensils, but there are dozens, if not hundreds. It all depends on your imagination

Buy in bulk

Buy large portions instead of small ones. Instead of buying a 100 g package of chocolade, buy a 300 g package. Instead of buying done for you salad at 15 euros per kilo, buy fresh salad at 3 euros per kilo and mix it yourself with vinegar and oil. You can also use group buying sites such as Groupon, which offer preferential buying conditions when negotiating prices for a group of people: in general, the more buyers there are, the lower the price per buyer, because bulk purchases are usually cheaper per unit. With coupons, you can get up to 10% OFF on your Groupon purchases. Register on IGraal to take advantage of it.
