What are the Main Types of Network Cabling Solutions?

networking cabling

The Ethernet network cabling has come a long way since its inception. There have been many changes and upgrades over the years. Now we have the best form of an Ethernet cable. This is networking hardware that is used to connect two different devices like a computer and a TV. You can connect your computer to a router as well using this cable.

This cat6 plenum cable act as a medium through which the information travels from one point to another. The network’s topology matters a lot about the cable you should get for your network. There are four types of network cabling solutions. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Coaxial Cables

This is the earliest form of an Ethernet cable. It has a single conductor at its core. There was a layer of plastic insulation around that conductor and a braided metal shield. This shield stops all the outer interferences like fluorescent lights, motors, and other computers.

This cable can be a bit tricky to install but it has a remarkable resistance against the signal barrier. There are two types of network cabling coaxial cables; thick coaxial and thin coaxial. You can use these cables for greater distances because they work better at distance than twisted pair cables.

Twisted Pair Cables

These cables got their name from their internal structure. There are eight copper wires twisted together to make our pairs. These pairs need to be tightly twisted because of all the crosstalk and EMI. This cable can be either shielded or unshielded.

The shielded cables have an extra layer around the twisted pairs. STP cable works perfectly when multiple cables are lying around. If that is not the case, you can always opt for UTP cables. They will be within your budget.

Fiber Optic Network Cabling

The fiber optic cables offer the highest speed and an extra stable connection. There are many reasons for that. They have a glass core instead of copper. This core is protected with many layers. These cables like, bulk cat6 1000ft emit light instead of electronic signals. These cables have become standard for the networking industry these days.

Cabling Accessories

There are many accessories you can use with your Ethernet cable. You can get patch panels, connectors, keystone jacks, and wall plates. These accessories make your network strong and stable without any additional help.

More about Ethernet Network Cabling

Ethernet cables have become an integral part of Ethernet hardware. You can differentiate them based on their category and their outer jacket. The cat with the name of the cable is the short form of category. The higher categories have the better spec and they perform outstandingly. You need to have basic knowledge about your network.

Cat5 or higher categories are ideal for both domestic and commercial purposes. You’ll get up to 10Gbps of data transfer rate with remarkable resistance against crosstalk and electromagnetic interference. You can also use them for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet applications.

The outer jacket has three different types; plenum, riser, and PVC. The plenum jacket is ideal for plenum spaces. This indoor cable has a fire retardant coating material. It would burn slowly in an event of a fire. You need to install plenum cables in plenum spaces because of the regular airflow.

Riser cables have ideal for riser spaces. You can install them in vertical spaces. Keep in mind that you can install plenum cable in riser space but not the other way around.

PVC or polyvinyl chloride is an outdoor cable. This is made of high-density material. This cable can withstand high temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Getting a cable can always be tricky. You need to do thorough research before getting a cable for your network technology. You can consult the experts if you want to. Network cabling solutions are an essential part of any network.
